What strange dreams are these
I went to my friend Masa's place after work. I told him I wanted to go home early but wine and rum had other plans for us. So, here I am. It's morning now. I fell asleep while writing this. This will make the third time I missed my daily assignment.
Have you ever had a supernatural experience?
When I was a child of about six or seven years old, I was lying in bed waiting to fall asleep. As a child, I suffered from a chronic case of sleep paralysis. It always happened when I was in bed trying to fall asleep. Just before it happened, I could feel a dull tingling sensation all over my body. Little by little, the sensation increased. As it did, I lost the ability to move. Sleep paralysis scared me. I wondered if it was demons trying to possess me. Nobody I talked to understood what I was going through. whenever it happened, I resist it as hard as I could until I could move again. One day I became curious . I wanted to know what would happen if I didn't resist. When the next bout of sleep paralysis came, I just let it happen. That was not a good idea. I had the sudden feeling of falling very quickly into a dark chasm. All around me I heard a loud and sinister laugh. In my mind, I screamed and was suddenly able to move again. Somehow, rocking my legs back and forth until I fell asleep seemed to prevent it. It's a habit that I still have today. I was 19 years old when I had the last experience. I was asleep on my friend Dodi’s sofa when I was hit by a barrage of sleep paralysis episodes. That was the only time they happened more than once in a night. It got hit again and again and again. Dodi was in the room with me sleeping on the floor. She heard me gasping for air and held me in her arms until I could calm down and fall asleep. It was almost as if she had chased the demons away.
My mother and grandmother believed I had the sight. I once had a dream that the house was burning. Few days later, Mother ran into the room to wake us because the house next door was on fire. At six years old I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling when I had a bright and powerful vision. It felt like I was watching a movie. In the vision, I saw myself performing on a big stage in front of many people. Decades later, it came true. Performing on grand stages became my life. Just after high school I went to the military recruiting office with the intention of joining the army. When I touched the door handle, I had of vivid hallucination myself killing people. It felt so real that I immediately turned around and left. On the day that I went to look at the house I live in now, I sat on the floor and felt an overwhelming sense of having been there before. It wasn't deja vu. It was more like has returned home.
I think I got this from my mother. When I was a child, she had a dream about her friend Rose. In the dream she could see people visiting Rose's home. When the people in the room were left alone the atmosphere suddenly changed. Everything grew dark and grotesque. They started calling for Rose’s death. “When will she die? I hope she’ll die soon. Die Rose! Die!”
These dreams happened to my mother for several days . At one point, she was at a shopping mall with my grandmother. Suddenly the dreams began to appear while Mother was awake. Everything around her vanished. She could see all of the people in the dream as clearly as I can see someone standing next to me in real life. They said kind words to Rose when she was in the room and evil things about her when she left. At the shopping mall, the vision overwhelmed my mother. It was as if she was in some kind of virtual reality environment. She grabbed hold of my grandmother and she said to her “Can't you see them? Can't you hear them?” According to my mother, my grandmother took her to a psychiatric clinic for evaluation. The diagnosis was stress. The doctor recommended that she get some rest.
Unfortunately, the dreams continued. It had gotten to the point where they became too much for my mother. She decided to tell her friend Rose about everything she had experienced. She talked about who she had seen , what they were wearing , and what they had done. Rose had a nervous breakdown . According to my mother, everything that she had described was real. The people in the dream were people my mom had not met before. Rose recognized them from my mother's description. Rose was so distraught that she had to be taken to the emergency room. She had a host of other symptoms as well that she couldn't explain. While she was there the hospital did a series of tests. They discovered high levels of some kind of poison in her blood. According to my mother, the people in the dream we're slowly poisoning Rose in real life. Just like that, the dreams stopped.
To be honest with you, I'm not sure if this is just a ghost story that my mom made up. When I asked my grandmother about it, the only thing she would tell me was she had taken my mother to a psychiatric hospital because she had a hallucination in the shopping mall. She wouldn’t confirm or deny the rest of the story. My mother, on the other hand, insisted it was real.
